ABSTRACT

In order to grow and develop as a leader you must fi rst learn how to lead yourself. Only when you are able to successfully lead yourself will you have the skills to lead a team. And, only when you have mastered how to lead a team, will you have the skills to lead an organization. This progression in leadership development is one of the central themes of The New Leadership Paradigm book, website and learning system that I published in 2011. 1

The fi rst step in leading yourself is to build your personal mastery skills-you must learn how to become your own self-coach if you want to overcome or release your limiting subconscious fear-based beliefs (see Annex 17). The second step in leading yourself is to individuate and self-actualize-you must get in touch with who you really are (your core values and beliefs), and fi nd work that gives your life meaning-work you are passionate about. 2 The third step is to integrate and serve-you must learn how to collaborate with others to make a difference in the world that eventually, as you get older and/or become an elder, leads you into a life of selfl ess service.
