ABSTRACT

JEROME AND CARMEN (COUPLE #4 FROM CHAPTER 1) Before heading to divorce court, the couple have agreed to a “last ditch” effort. The metaphor is apt: Both partners seem solidly “dug in” to their positions, the resentment flashing between them almost palpable during their first office visit. Carmen sits with arms crossed, exuding an air of “I’m not budging an inch.” Jerome anxiously fiddles with his smartphone as if hoping that, with the punch of a button, he can teleport himself out of the next torturous hour. The way they see it, each has “done all I can” in either addressing ADHDrelated challenges ( Jerome) or accommodating them (Carmen).
