ABSTRACT
Pre-independence Third World countries exhibited certain common characteristics:(1)
predominance of agrarian and commercial activities in the national sector of the economy;
creation of a small industrial elite, usually developing in the wake of dominant foreign capital; and
tendency to a peculiar form of development that we may qualify as uneven development.
