ABSTRACT

From Say’s correspondence, a picture emerges of a warm father and family man, who enjoyed the company of friends and relatives and took the trouble to write to them regularly. There was always the Geneva connection: the Duvoisin, Castanet, Delessert, Rath and Delaroche families. With some of these, family ties and financial ones were intertwined: aunt Duvoisin was one of the financiers for the Auchy project, and Michel Delaroche was a sounding board and financial advisor. Of his Décade associates, Amaury Duval remained a regular and trusted correspondent.
