ABSTRACT
As illustrated by the preceding chapters in this volume, the United States has made substantial progress in improving some outcomes on the path from college access to degree completion. Growth in college enrollment has been particularly impressive. As Elizabeth Kurban and I observe in our chapter in this volume, the number of students enrolled in college increased 74% over the past three decades (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2012).
