ABSTRACT
When the police have gathered evidence and the decision is made to prosecute the suspect – see the section on the Crown Prosecution Service in the previous chapter – then a new set of actors enter the drama. The courtroom is the stage on which they perform, playing out decisions of guilt and innocence, liberty and custody, and in some instances even life and death.
