ABSTRACT

Pregnancy is an area of great concern for women who attend for contraception and family planning advice. Women may consult concerned that they are unable to become pregnant; this may be connected to guilt over previous genito-urinary infections or terminations of pregnancy, or anxiety about using a method of contraception for a prolonged period like the combined oral contraceptive. Other women may consult unaware that they are at risk of pregnancy and this topic may need to be approached. Some women may already be aware that they are pregnant and require conf rmation; they may also have made a decision about the future of this pregnancy. Other women may need time to consider their decision and discuss this with their partner.
