ABSTRACT

Understanding how and why sex offenses occur and being able to deduce the motivations, rewards, and means of inhibiting sex offenders are research challenges that have only been fulfilled moderately. Despite years of study and a multitude of efforts, scholars are still struggling to come up with solid, dependable answers to these questions that will allow the criminal justice, mental health, social services, and other systems to enhance public safety. The questions that are central to these efforts are those that require understanding of meaning, process, and experiences, all of which are issues that are best answered through the use of qualitative research methods.
