ABSTRACT

In 1989 the mass-market publishers Penguin marked a milestone in their long history by publishing Hanes Cymru by John Davies – the first Welsh-language title in their list. A second edition followed in 2006, and an English translation The History of Wales (which you won’t be needing) had already appeared in 1994. It is widely regarded as the best single-volume treatment of the subject, not least for the sweep of its vision and the liveliness of its narrative.
