ABSTRACT

In stark contrast to the nineteenth-century poem (more of a song, really) that we saw in Chapter 26, this modern poem Efrog Newydd Eto (‘New York Again’) by Gerwyn Wiliams, from his recent collection Rhwng Gwibdaith a Coldplay, is an example of the language in its most lively and modern poetic idiom – a work composed in Welsh but on a theme that is likely to sound a chord with a wider audience beyond the borders of Wales.
