ABSTRACT
In this category, the UK as a mature host country, and the US as a mature home country, provide an interesting contrast. In the former, an indigenous motor industry was undermined by the presence of foreign subsidiaries. In the latter, a strong domestic industry gave birth to the world's largest MNEs. They are alike in that, in more recent years, the industry in both countries has been seriously threatened by imports.
