ABSTRACT

The four pillars necessary to support employee engagement identified by MacLeod and Clarke (2009) in their comprehensive report include ‘employee voice’ alongside leadership, engaging managers and integrity. ‘Voice’ has received the least interest in the three years since the report was launched compared to the significant attention paid to leadership, integrity and managerial behaviour, as reflected in the chapters of this book. The opportunity for employees to have a voice in management decision taking is fundamental in influencing attitudes and behaviour toward the organization that employs them, and in building cooperation with managers and fellow workers.
