ABSTRACT

In the Communication Age, we must learn to extract the knowledge from the information, put it into a dynamic “digital” form, and communicate it to cause action.

S OCIAL WORK IS A PRACTICE PROFESSION. N ot surprisingly, then, social work research focuses on improving practice. Research accomplishes this task by testing theories of practice and human behavior, developing assessment instruments that improve practice, evaluating new and ongoing intervention programs, and providing information about social conditions that affect social policy. Research, however, is a resource-intensive process-it is costly in terms of people’s time and effort. The value of doing research can be realized only when the results of studies are presented in a way that impact social work practice and social policy.
