ABSTRACT
There is an unfortunate perception that surrounds residential programs. Programs serve youth 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Residential programs do not close. They do remarkable work, and few hear about it. And then, a single incident occurs and within a short time is on every news report. Staff will say, “It’s not fair.” It’s not. But it is the work we do. Just as physicians and nurses take an oath to provide the best care possible, we do the same with the youth in our programs.
