ABSTRACT

The groups work well with a maximum of four children all from the same year group and preferably the same class to ensure the maximum impact of transferable skills on their return to class. They can also be delivered with a pair of children to provide a more intense and focused intervention, which can be useful for children who need extra support with sharing, waiting their turn and other social and emotional skills. This enables them to achieve success within a more realistic environment, which can then encourage them to practise these skills outside the group on a weekly basis.
