ABSTRACT

The role of culture in psychology is intriguing and important, as culture shapes our behavior as much as the other way around. Yet culture has posed, and continues to pose, a challenge to psychological research, since it is a complex and dynamic construct. A further difficulty involving cross-cultural studies of Chinese people is due to the multidimensional nature of Chinese culture. The fundamental issue may lie with the disagreement over the definition and conceptual framework of Chinese culture as well as the interpretations of certain cultural and/or cross-cultural variables. 1
