ABSTRACT

One of the options facing those preparing an HR strategy is how to meet the economic and social challenges of the twenty-first century, where survival depends upon remaining responsive to a highly competitive market place, which is global in scope and subject to rapid change. In this chapter we examine flexibility strategies as one approach employers adopt to meet these challenges. These strategies are examples of the HR function creating a ‘fit’ between the business strategy, including the particular business model adopted by the company, and the HR policies and practices used to source the capability the company requires.
