ABSTRACT

The term ‘talent management’ came into prominence in 1997, when the consultancy firm McKinsey and Company referred to the ‘war for talent’. The term has been used increasingly over the last decade. This represents an awareness of the importance attached to the recruitment and development of high quality employees for the success of an organization. There are many definitions of talent management. For some commentators, the whole of HRM is devoted to talent management, which indicates that the management of people touches on every aspect of HRM. For others, talent management is concerned with fostering and watching over the talented few in the business, who can make the biggest strategic contribution now and in the future.
