ABSTRACT

Arsenic (As) contamination of the groundwater and Holocene sediments in Bangladesh has been termed as one of the world’s most serious water quality problems in known human history (Meharg et al. 2006; Huq & Naidu 2005). The source of As in the groundwater of the Bengal Basin is geogenic (Halim et al. 2009). The primary source and actual mechanism(s) of As release from soils and aquifer sediments into groundwater are now beginning to be understood (Meharg et al. 2006).
