ABSTRACT

We evaluated effects of As exposure in a population exposed to wide range of water arsenic (0.1-846 in HEALS cohort.

2 MATERAIAL AND METHODS

The HEALS was established in Araihazar in 2000, Bangladesh, to prospectively examine health effects of arsenic exposure from drinking water among 20,000 adults and their children. Since baseline recruitment, we have been following our study participants for their health status using a number of procedures including active quarterly visits by village health workers, bi-annual visits by physicians, and passive surveillance by a field clinic established for participants and their family members. During our follow-up visits all cohort members are evaluated by structured clinical assessment protocol to ascertain potential signs and symptoms related to lung disorders.
