ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the uncertainty of the future for which we are designing today. Rather than attempting to summarize the implications of the previous chapters, or worse, to predict a particular educational future, this chapter discusses the range of issues that designers of learning will need to engage with in the coming five to ten years. It examines a number of current trends and considers how design processes might need to evolve in response. The chapter was produced in an original way: a public version of the chapter was authored by open contribution, while a closed version was collaboratively written over 24 hours by many of the book’s authors, working together in a live setting or remotely. The version produced here was written by the main author, drawing on the contributions of others without whom the chapter could not have been written.
