ABSTRACT

London Underground (LU) transport over 4 million passengers each weekday and a similar number at the weekend and this number is increasing all the time. In order to support the movement of these passenger numbers LU employs approximately 10,000people; the vastmajority of these canbe considered as ‘front line’operational staff. In the course of their work they operate station facilities (253 owned/275 served), trains (507) and control systems in order to safely and effectively deliver the tube service.
