The King then orders the eternal fire maintained in Wilno (Vilnius) with daily supplies of fresh firewood to be extinguished, and the shrine from which a priest gives petitioners answers allegedly from the god of fire, to be demolished. The sacred groves are to be cut down, and the snakes kept in people’s houses as tutelary idols are to be killed.
