ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a discussion of teacher training in Brazil raising some of the principal issues in the field. The chapter will examine an outline of the history of Brazilian teacher training, followed by an analysis of the current problems to be faced in teacher education. The role played by the World Bank in the context of Brazilian education will also be discussed, together with current research into teacher education. The problems and future prospects facing teacher education in Brazil will conclude the chapter.
