ABSTRACT

This chapter surveys both the changing bases of feminism and future visions by women. Taking an eclectic approach, feminism is described as a spiral learning form, influencing debates on postmodernity, social sciences and development. The implications on education of feminist perspectives of history, politics and knowledge are articulated. Described next are the bases for most feminists futures – a stronger communal life, more fluid gender roles and a breakdown of the public/private division. This article concludes with the futures of gender. Three scenarios are offered: unisex androgny; female-male polarity and multiple gender diversity.
