ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to examine the broader outlines of the political and economic contexts which directly influence the educational and employment policies in the countries of Central-Eastern and Eastern Europe today. However, the contexts themselves are parameters which are not constant, but tend to evolve through time faster than they do in respect of other regions and areas in the world. Hence, it is necessary to watch the Eastern European scene carefully all the time and to introduce the necessary corrective rectifications whenever the circumstances demand (Amann, 1994, pp 14-15; Brzezinski, 1993, pp 7-55 and 155-81; Motyl, 1993, pp 1-55; Tomiak, 1992c, pp 19-34).
