ABSTRACT
The Scots have a long tradition of innovation. The driving force in Scotland at present is the well organized Scottish Health Education Group (SHEG) formed in April 1980 on the merger between a health education unit and the Scottish Council for Health Education which had been founded in 1943. It is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team. Its work has focused on mass media health promotion including sponsorship of the Scottish Football Cup, marathons, family walks and very substantial work in schools. The mode of the Health Promoting School is expanded in detail in this chapter. Recent trends in schools health education are turning towards health related fitness.
