ABSTRACT

In 1986 a Dutch smoking prevention programme was developed. It was based upon the results of a study of the determinants of smoking behaviour in Dutch children, the insights from prevention research mainly from the United States, and social psychological theories. The Dutch smoking prevention programme ‘non-smoking: your choice’ is a video peer-led programme. This means that the current content and structure is explained on video by adolescents. The programme uses several educational methods such as active participation and active learning. It consists of five lessons and is supplied with manuals. Both the content and the structure are explained and discussed in this case study.
