ABSTRACT

School self review or evaluation, meaning the process whereby the school reflects upon and assesses its own work, can be a powerful strategy for school improvement. This chapter draws on the experience of the Guidelines for Review and Internal Development in Schools (GRIDS) project to explore a series of questions about the review and development process:

When is a school ready for self review and development?

What is the role of the head teacher?

How can the review and development process be managed?

Does self review reach the real issues?

What external support is required?
