ABSTRACT

In top-level basketball, the defensive strategy is prepared according to each specific opponent. This strategic match preparation intends to disrupt the opposing offensive organization and the rhythm of players' actions, taking into account the tactical advantages derived from the constraints imposed. Considering basketball as a ball possession game, the defensive phase of a match can introduce some momentary perturbations in the balance between teams and, consequently, provoke what can be called a match critical moment (Ferreira, 2006).
