ABSTRACT
It is the purpose of this chapter to explore possible links between education, gender and sociology. The first section establishes the existence of issues of gender and education that are compatible with the traditional concerns of British sociology of education. The next section reviews approaches available in the 'sociology of gender' to which sociologists of education might turn. The conclusion identifies some of the problems and possibilities raised by an attempt to take gender seriously within the sociology of education.
