ABSTRACT
My title is borrowed from him to whom we owe the one and only collection, and there is a sense in which it is true, for some of the Adepti Anglici with whom I am concerned here appeared in Latin translations abroad before their original remains were printed in English. For example, the Ordinal of Norton was published—by Michael Maier—in 1618, 1 the tract of Dastin in 1625 2 and practically the whole works of Ripley in 1649, 3 whereas the general ingarnering produced under the auspices of Elias Ashmole and based upon old manuscripts belongs to the year 1652. 4
