Prisoners’ Rights and Discrimination of Vulnerable Groups 6 INTRODUCTION The topic of discrimination is vast and can cover a multitude of different areas. The topic is likely to be covered in different ways in different institutions: sometimes discrimination is taught as a topic in itself; alternatively, different groups of vulnerable people can be looked at separately. The main focus of this chapter is upon a particularly topical and increasingly taught area of one class of vulnerable people; prisoners. However, the chapter also concludes by looking at discrimination more generally.
