ABSTRACT

Beginning researchers will often define their researchable problem before turning to the practical question of where to seek funds. Experienced researchers are more likely to develop their proposals in response to guidelines from funding bodies, and thus may be more likely to attract funding. Explicit acknowledgement of the ethical dimensions involved in project is fundamental to demonstrating competence in a research proposal. Most funding agencies and ethics committees require consent protocols. The merit of the research will be judged further by the ability of the agency to provide the infrastructure to support the proposal and by the capacity of the researcher to devote the time and resources required to the project.
