AGEING AND DEPENDENCY
Ageing, a biological fact located within real parameters of life expectancy rates, is diffi cult to defi ne. The concept has diff erent meanings and connotations across a wide range of cultural groups within and across societal
and geographical borders. Ageing as a topic is, of course not new, but little is to be found under discussion in the innovation literature. Generally, the literature has focused on macroeconomic implications, such as burdens on pensions and health care fi nancing, and on the development and forecasting of science and medicine to mitigate age-associated disability.
