ABSTRACT

Arab mathematicians who are as famous as Ibn al-Haytham can be counted on the fingers of one hand. This mathematician who was also a physicist, rapidly gained a celebrated reputation in the world for his work on optics, astronomy and mathematics, which appeared first in Arabic, both in the East and the West, then in Latin under the familiar name of Alhazen (from his first name al-Îasan), as well as in Hebrew and Italian.
