ABSTRACT

Qualitative research represents a rich opportunity to explore the perspectives of young people and the environments in which they interact, including the cyber-environments. The voices of young people can be represented authentically through qualitative research and also contribute to knowledge building and theory development (Mishna, Antle, & Regehr, 2004). The knowledge generated through qualitative data complements the data gathered by quantitative methods (Cullingford & Morrison, 1995), and privileges individuals’ “lived experience” (Van Manen, 1990). Qualitative research can expand and deepen our understanding of cyberbullying and provide directions for future research through generating new hypotheses.
