This chapter will examine all the ways a person can get started in communications, and how skills from other areas can help best prepare someone for a potential career. It will look at efforts such as volunteering, internships, blogging, and all the ways and skills you will need to try and get a foot in the door and begin your career. The chapter will also provide many examples of how some of the best in the industry have started their careers. In any pursuit, motivation needs to be the key. The entry-level position needs to be filled by those with a passion and a desire to learn. Therefore it is extremely important to be also able to step out and ask for help. Network. Just like finding a job when unemployed, or gaining rungs on a social ladder, networking in sports is just as important for you as knowing which network the NHL plays on these days.
