ABSTRACT
Naomi is a 24-year-old woman who reported first hearing a voice when she was 13. She described having taken some unknown ‘drugs’ after which she experienced a voice talking to her for one day only. A year later she said that she began to hear several voices, which were much louder and more distressing: she experienced these voices as frightening because of their nasty content. Following the onset of these voices, Naomi reported threatening someone with a knife, resulting in admission to a psychiatric hospital where she remained for the most part until the age of 17.
