ABSTRACT

Membership of this network comprised one junior and five (previously six) secondary schools, all within the London Borough of Hounslow. The overarching purpose of the network was the improvement of students’ academic achievements through the development of higher-order thinking skills, with a particular emphasis on teaching and learning within the science curriculum. The primary means of realising this aim had been through the provision of opportunities for teachers to engage collaboratively in research and enquiry activities that focused on the development of their classroom practices. Funding from the NLC had largely been used to support this work, including the dissemination of research findings as well as the sharing of associated teaching and learning materials with all teachers across the network via a CD-ROM.
