ABSTRACT
Florence Harmony was 35 years of age when referred to me. Both she and her husband had been on a waiting list for marital counselling when he was killed in a road traffic accident. Her immediate reaction was to exert a rigid self-control, which masked feelings of intense anxiety and a fear that she would panic. She became extremely anxious for the welfare of her children, overcontrolling them and constantly vigilant for fear of another disaster.
