ABSTRACT

The idea that changes in the brain morphology can occur as a result of external influences has been evident from as early as 1815 when a scientist called Spurzheim reported that the brain, as well as other muscles, could increase with exercise as these areas have more blood carried to them as they are ‘excited’. One of the surest ways to motivate pupils and promote self-esteem among them is through displaying their work on high-quality display boards around the classroom. The most effective displays are not necessarily two-dimensional either. Particularly for pupils who are in education from eleven, it is perhaps rare for them to see classrooms that have three-dimensional displays. Recently educators have been extolling the potential benefits of music in promoting effective learning. There are a number of ways that the teacher can begin the process of utilising the benefits of music in the classroom.
