ABSTRACT
This concept will be explored within the context of an Early Intervention Nursery, considering how the principles of family centred care can be applied to both the community and acute care settings. A hierarchy of family-centred care (Hutchfield 1999) will be utilised to structure discussion (Table 6.1). This hierarchy was based on the work of Shelton and SmithStepanek (1995), who developed their framework of family-centred care within the context of children with learning disability.
