If involvement in physiological pacemaker function makes it an obvious target for pharmacological modulation of heart rate. It is interesting, therefore, to consider the potential advantages and drawbacks of If current inhibitors, compared with β-blockers and Ca2+ antagonists, the other tools currently available.
