Facial reanimation

Facial expression is a function of both voluntary and involuntary action of the facial muscles. The motor supply comes from the seventh cranial nerve-the facial nerve.

Facial paralysis may be due to:

• acquired palsy: —Commonest cause is Bell’s palsy and most cases tend to recover well. —Iatrogenic, e.g. following parotid or acoustic neuroma surgery. —Trauma.
