ABSTRACT
By 1981, the American pro-Israel lobby advocated a conception of Israel not just as a fellow democracy sharing Western and biblical values, but as America’s exclusive regional strategic partner against Soviet and other threats to American interests. The lobby worked to suppress beliefs inconsistent with those concepts.
