ABSTRACT

So, we would expect that there will be moves to set up nuclear cardiology services in hospitals which have not previously had access to them, and this book is intended to offer practical assistance to those involved. We have assumed that the target audience will already be providing a general nuclear medicine service, and will therefore not need any instruction in the basics of scintigraphy. There is, for example, no chapter on radiation protection or compliance with legislation, since readers will already be familiar with these topics, and we have concentrated on those areas of practice which are specific to cardiac imaging. Paradoxically, this also means that the book should be of interest to readers such as trainee cardiologists and cardiac nurses, who need to know something about nuclear cardiology but who have no background in radionuclide imaging, and no wish to wade through a lot of unwanted information on basic science and imaging technology. We also hope that the book will serve as a useful primer in nuclear cardiology for radiology trainees.
