ABSTRACT

There are various methods of stress suitable for myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS). The ‘right choice’ will depend not only upon the patient’s clinical condition and physical ability, but also upon the equipment, resources, skilled staff and expertise available in your department. Selecting the most suitable method for your patient is crucial, as it is essential to ensure that an optimal level of stress has been achieved if an equivocal test result is to be avoided. With this in mind, the referral card or letter should be designed to include all the relevant information that will enable the clinician or practitioner or relevant designated person to allocate the most suitable protocol to the patient (Table 4.1).
