ABSTRACT

Epilepsy is a condition characterized by recurrent (two or more) seizures unprovoked by an immediately identifiable cause. An epileptic seizure is a clinical manifestation presumed to result from an abnormal and excessive discharge of a set of neurons in the brain. Some specialists consider that a single seizure associated with electroencephalogram (EEG) changes may have a high chance of recurrence and should therefore be included in the definition of epilepsy.
