ABSTRACT

The constant barrages of afferent fibre activity that characterize neuropathic pain states depend on influx and efflux of sodium ions through axonal membrane sodium channels. Drugs which block sodium channels can give relief from some neuropathic pains. Sodium channels are blocked by some anticonvulsants.
